The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County (TCFHR) is seeking a skilled person with a passion for our mission to join our team as a Director of Programs and Marketing.  This position will report directly to the Executive Director.

About our Foundation

TCFHR was founded in 1998 and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. TCFHR makes it easy for members of our community to give back to the place they call home. TCHR works with individuals, families, businesses, and nonprofit organizations. TCFHR currently has over 300 funds with approximately $83 million in assets of which $47 million are endowed.  A staff of five handles approximately $10 million in gifts and grants annually.

  • Salary range $55,000 – $62,000, commensurate with experience
  • Full-time position

Specific Responsibilities:

Communications and Marketing:

  • Making sure all Community Foundation materials have consistent and positive messaging and branding
  • Conducting quality control on all communications
  • Developing relationships and working with media outlets and other companies
  • Work on a variety of digital platforms (Canva, Hootsuite, MailChimp) and create web and mobile content
  • Maintain our brand and image in all internal and external materials
  • Develop marketing strategies for The Community Foundation’s services and programs
  • Researching, drafting and issuing press releases to the news media and blogs
  • Build strong relationships with sponsors, partners, donors, volunteers, and community members
  • Public speaking for radio, television, and newspaper interviews and in front of large groups
  • Generate, edit, publish and share engaging social media content daily (e.g. original text, photos, videos and news)
  • Collaborate with other staff and the Foundation’s volunteer committees
  • Stay up-to-date with current technologies and trends in social media, design tools and applications
  • Oversee The Community Foundation’s website updates and changes
  • Create Annual Report, Giving Back Guide, and other print/online publications as needed using Canva in collaboration with other staff

Programs:

Programs include Great Community Give, Excellence in Nonprofit Leadership, and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

  • Plan programs from start to finish, including identifying processes, deadlines, and milestones
  • Establish attainable goals for The Community Foundation
  • Work with other team members to develop budgets and plans for the programs
  • Evaluate and assess programs’ strengths and weaknesses
  • Monitor projects and ensure goals are met
  • Contact potential sponsors and create ongoing partnerships for programs
  • Develop evaluation strategies to monitor performance and determine the need for improvements
  • Lead volunteer committees in the program planning process
  • Ensure program operations and activities adhere to legal guidelines and internal policies
  • Serve as contact for nonprofit organizations and support nonprofit organizations’ missions by connecting them to resources and opportunities
  • Write grant proposals to appropriate funders in support of programs and services

Other:

  • Assist in the planning and the execution of events like annual donor appreciation events, biennial Rocco Forum on Philanthropy, and others
  • Communicate effectively with clients, vendors, and staff to articulate their vision, negotiate contracts, and build relationships with stakeholders
  • Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Executive Director

Qualifications:

  • Minimum five-years’ experience in program management and communications
  • Demonstrated efficiency and effectiveness with the ability to effectively multi-task and prioritize
  • Ability to work in a changing environment as a team player
  • Detail oriented and the ability to work independently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Comfortable speaking in front of groups.
  • Knowledge of internet marketing campaigns, including SEO
  • Ability to effectively engage with team members
  • Experience in content management
  • Effective and compelling storyteller
  • Ability to deliver creative content
  • Familiarity with web design
  • Good data analysis, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
  • Cost control and budgeting skills

  • Thorough understanding of project/program management techniques and methods
